30 Years of Rain

October 2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the Glasgow Science Fiction Writers' Circle, which began with the first of six annual courses in writing science fiction, run by author and critic Duncan Lunan at Glasgow University's Department of Adult & Continuing Education. At the request of the first year's class, the second term was devoted to writing workshops, and these continued with the formation of the GSFWC, which has continued to meet several times a month ever since.

By invitation, Duncan Lunan has contributed an Introduction and a new short story to an anniversary anthology, "Thirty Years of Rain", published by the GSFWC and launched on Saturday 24th September at Fantasycon by the Sea 2016, the annual British fantasy convention in Scarborough, held over September 23rd-25th. The book is edited by Neil Williamson, Elaine Gallacher and Cameron Johnston, and features many authors who have begun their careers through the GSFWC, among distinguished contributors including William King, Louise Welsh, Gary Gibson, Hal Duncan, Michael Cobley, Amal El-Mohtar, Ruth E.J. Booth, Neil Williamson and many more.

Many of those contributors will be at a second launch in Glasgow, to be held as a free event at Waterstones, 153–157 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, G2 3EW, at 7 p.m. on Friday September 30th 2016.
